Setting Up Microsoft Outlook Express
This Knowledge Base Article aims to give you a detailed step by step walk through on how to set up Microsoft Outlook Express so that you can send and receive e-Mails with the redIT e-Mail Servers.
This walk through is aimed for users that have NOT already setup Outlook Express, an additional guide is available for users that are adding or changing account details.

You will need to know the following information before you start:
  • Your full e-Mail Address
  • Your e-Mail account password
  • Your DNS Address for your e-Mail Accounts
Please note: In this example we have used the term "yourdomain.co.uk" as our domain name and "user@yourdomain.co.uk" as our e-Mail address which you should replace with your domain name and your full e-Mail address.

Step 1 - Start the Microsoft Outlook Express programme
This can be done in a number of ways depending on the Operating System that you are using in our example you can click on either the "Quick Launch" icon next to the "Start" button, or click on the "Start" button and then move to "Programs" and then click on the "Outlook Express menu option.

Step 2 - Enter your account name.
This is the name that will appear on all your sent e-Mails

Then click on the "Next >" button to continue

Step 3 - Enter your full e-Mail Address
This is the full e-Mail address for your account with us which can be found in your control panel.

Then click on the "Next >" button to continue

Step 4 - Server Address Details
Our e-Mail Servers are configured to allow our users to use either Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) and as such you may select either of these options from the "My incoming mail server is a" drop down list.
You should then enter the configured address for our e-Mail servers. By default this will be "mail.yourdomain.co.uk" but you should check with your Domain Name Registrar first.

Then click on the "Next >" button to continue

Step 5 - Server Logon Details
To send and receive your e-Mails you will need to authenticate yourself with our server this is, in our case, done with your full e-Mail address and your e-Mail account password which you should enter in the two boxes.

Then click on the "Next >" button to continue, this should complete the setup wizard and you should be seeing a Congratulations Screen

Then click on the "Finish" button

Before you can fully use our e-Mail Services you are required to authenticate your username and password for each e-Mail that you send. Outlook Express will do this for you if you initially follow these steps.
Click on the "Tools" menu bar option and then select "Accounts..."

On the next screen click on the "Mail" tab

Then click on the "Properties" button on the right hand side.

On the following display box click on the "Servers" tab and ensure that a tick is in the "My Server requires authentication" tick box under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section

Click on the "OK" button and then the "Close" button, you should now be looking at your Outlook Express screen again.

If you wish to test that your account is setup correctly you can always send an e-Mail to support@redit.co.uk. This will raise a Support Ticket and generate an automated reply which, you should receive back almost instantly.
